PROFILE
The Laboratory has vast technical and technological capabilities with regard to mapping and assessing the biological complexity the human body, along with its surrounding space, in a virtual three-dimensional environment. This is done by applying the technology of 3D scanning (laser and photographic), photogrammetry, modelling, texturing and 3D animation.
Scientific-research activity:
- The challenge that modern science poses to forensic medicine and related sciences influence the course of the Laboratory’s scientific actions. The interdisciplinarity of forensic medicine as a medical specialisation, together with technical and technological capacities of the Laboratory, altogether constitute a scientific platform for co-operation with theoretical and clinical medicine specialties.
Didactic activity:
- Theoretical concepts and practical solutions researched within the scope of activity of the Laboratory are part of the curriculum for students of forensic medicine of all faculties of Wroclaw Medical University. We also participate in workshops and conferences organised for prosecutors, judges and police officers.
Services:
- The Laboratory provides its services through medico-legal assessment based on and supported by 3D imaging techniques for non-person entities. Due to the institutional nature of the Department of Forensic Medicine, the Laboratory’s commissioners are essentially mainly legal and law enforcement authorities. We have at our disposal extensive technical and technological resources for mapping and determining the site and course of the criminal event in a virtual 3D environment. The fees for the services provided are determined by the number of working hours required by the forensic investigators for delivering their opinion. Due to diverse amount of evidence material, as well as the degree of complexity of its analysis and the commissioned scope of evaluation, the prices are quoted individually.
Experimental, developmental and implementation activity:
- The Laboratory aims to conduct experimental works within the context of combining imaging techniques and technologies. The objective of the above is the creation of novel tools to use in archiving, visualising and analysis within a 3D environment of objects and events surrounding us in micro and macro scale.
